Hmmm. I just noticed that one of my old time capsules suddenly things it is “December 30 2042”
I sure wish it were, then we go warp to Andromeda and back in time for lunch. So the basic setup in Airport Utility doesn’t seem to give you a way to check the dates. Fortunately….
Also, the Apple Airport seems to get confused about where things are. There is no way to run a manual rescan, so with the Airport 6.1, you literally have to wait around for the rescan to start. Yuck!
Also, 6.x removed most of the features of Airport 5.6, so you should download that and then you need an automation script to get it installed, because it refuses to install on Mountain Lion. Yuck and Yuck!
The other problem is that this automator script isn’t signed, so you have to right click to start and then it throws an error message. Then do the drag and drop. Yuck, Yuck and Yuck!

Install the Old AirPort Utility in Mountain Lion | Macinstruct

The only problem was that a number of advanced features went missing.
If you’ve been missing the features in the old AirPort Utility application, we have good news: There’s a way to install it in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. Apple’s official installer won’t work, but with the help of a free Automator workflow, you can extract AirPort Utility 5.6.1 and use it on your Mac.
Here’s how to install the old AirPort Utility (5.6.1) in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion:

  1. Download AirPort Utility 5.6.1 from Apple’s website.
  2. Download this Automator workflow. And if you’re feeling generous, please consider making a donation to the awesome dude who created said workflow.
  3. Drag and drop the AirPort Utility 5.6.1 installer on to the Automator workflow, as shown below.

After all this, the time capsule could still do SMB files but not afs not respond to the utilities. A reboot finally fixed this and sadly when it returned said that ntp was set. So seems like a big bug. Reinstalling firmware 7.6.3 now. But seems This time capsule is on the way out…
