OK have some new clues to my dad’s home. First some old pictures when he last visited. Am doing forensic analysis. I feel like a CSI. Zooming in the picture shows a cross street 自忠路 between 67 and 77.

Now looking at the picture, the number in the house is actually so close 41 shun chang lu， ＃4 rear (顺昌路四十一弄4后门）and very close to Fuxing Lu

My goodness, this is so close to our home in Shanghai, it is eerie. Not where we thought it was on the other side of Fuxing Park, but right next to Xintiandi. We thought the home was closer to Huai Hai Zhong Lu, but the translations were wrong.
