Making Your PC A Work of Art

I’ve been chatting with Tim and Brian quite a bit about how PCs are changing from productivity machines to (particularly for gamers) works of art that should be displayed. Just looking at our latest Threadripper miniTower build shows how easy it is to get the right hardware:

NZXT H510. It is easy to get a case now with a built in window in it and if you make sure the fans are not loud, you can put it next to your monitor which is pretty awesome.

ASUS ROG Strix TRX40-E. The easiest way to see this is the number of LED lighting effects that are on most boards. For instance the ASUS ROG Strix TRX-40e designed for the amazing Threadripper processors has an amazing number of lights and lighting controllers on it. There are motherboard lights everywhere. And there is even a dedicated light control software called Aura that ships with it.

Corsair Vengeance LPX 128GB. Even RAM is in the act. The crucial RAM we bought for our last build has RGB lights everywhere and they seem to somehow respond to processing.

MSI GeForce RTX2080 Ti Gaming X TRIO. Same with the MSI RTX 2080 Ti Trio board. It has lights all up and down the front.

Thermaltake Riing Plus 12 RGB TT Premium. Finally, you can buy LED fans that are both quiet at 25dB and colorful. They all need a lighting controller. As PC Guide shows they may cost $25 each but they have lighting control. The Thermaltake fans look pretty cool!

Whirlwind FX Vortx. You can also buy accessories like Keyboards that light up and even something that blows hot air on you when there is an explosion on the screen. The Whirwind FX Vortex.

NZXT Hue+ is a lighting kit where you can put LED strips everywhere.

RGB Controller. Then you can control the whole mess if you have enough RGB lighting inputs on your motherboard or you need to buy what is called an addressable RGB controller. These lighting things have a 4-pin interfaces that look like fan controller and they somehow can signal LED lights as well.

Finally every motherboard maker has a lighting control application that you can use. For instance MSI Mystic Light, ASUS Aura and so forth. So go at it!
