wp: Migrating to Cloudways from DigitalOcean

OK, I’ve been managing my WordPress instance on a DigitalOcean droplet for the past four years. It has been faster than my old Bluehost, but costs have been rising, so it is now $25/month up from a much lower number. And I’ve had my share of management issues like installing hand things like redist and other caching to get performance from 7 seconds a page to less than one. The last straw has been dealing with outages as my 1GB 1 vCPU is hanging, then I saw that Cloudways has a managed WordPress instance, so for $25/month, I can get some stability.

Also, I was contemplating the migration from PHP 7.4 to 8.0 and thinking well I might as well try Cloudways.

It was remarkably easy to migrate, literally install a plugin and I’m up and running. Never had such an easy migration. I’m going to try this for a while and see how it goes, but if performance stays up and I don’t have to worry about things like PHP migrations, I’m sold.

I also am going to try start a newsletter with Newsletter plugin, so wish me luck!
