OK, unlike MovableType, WordPress doesn’t automatically generate an archive.php (which is a list of all your posts), so for default templates, you get a 404 page not found error. To fix this isn’t easy to figure out, but essentially, go to Write/Write Page and make sure to name the “page” exactly Archives then it will work. I’m using the template by Cutline right now and there is an option to create an archive template, but then you have to create an actual page. Not sure easy.

Also there are “widgets”:http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/WordPress_Widgets in WordPress. This means you don’t have to hack away at your sidebars, but can drag and drop things. Kind of neat. You first need a “Widget-Ready Theme”:http://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_List/Widget-ready and you can find these at “http://themes.wordpress.net/”:http://themes.wordpress.net/ and check the sorting option, Widget Ready.

Then you can add widgets and edit them at Presentation/Widgets in your WordPress administrative interface. You can download new Widgets to try at “codex.wordpress.com”:http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/WordPress_Widgets for a big selection of them.
