“Hitslink.com”:http://marketshare.hitslink.com/ has a cool site. Shows installed base market share for computer hitting sites on the internet. Kind of interesting, although not clear how scientific. Certainly better than counting all those computers that are door stops these days for “operating systems”:http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=8#

| Operating System | Share |
| Windows | 91% |
| Mac | 7.8% |
| Linux | 0.7% |
| iPhone | 0.16% |

Windows is still dominant, but interesting to see how even on an installed base basis, Apple is really catching up.

In terms of “browsers”:http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0 I was actually kind of amazed to see how popular Firefox is:

| Browser | Share |
| Microsoft | 73.75% |
| Firefox | 18.41% |
| Safari | 6.25% |
| Opera | 0.71% |

Clearly Microsoft and Windows are dominant, but not as much as I would have expected on browser. Means that lots of Windows users are on Firefox these days.

Finally for “search engine usage”:http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=4 the results are the reverse:

| Search Engine | Share |
| Google | 78.23% |
| Yahoo | 11.68% |
| MSN | 2.95% |
| AOL | 2.52% |
| Live Search | 2.41% |
| Ask | 1.27% |
