There are the usual suspects and then there is the “Hot List”:http://www.cntraveller.com/Special_Features/The_Hot_List_2008/ which are new stylish hotels that Conde Naste has found. Here are some:

Well there are the usual hotels like the Grand Hyatt (the pool!) or the harder to find Beijing Shangri-la, but Conde Naste found an interesting spot called the “Hotel Cote Cour”:http://www.cntraveller.com/Special_Features/The_Hot_List_2008/Hotel_Cote_Cour_SL/ which is a 14-room inn in an old neighborhood. Pretty cheap too.

And if there is time for a weekend trip to Nanjing, then there is the “Kayumanis Nanjing”:http://www.cntraveller.com/Special_Features/The_Hot_List_2008/Kayumanis_Nanjing/ which is super expensive at $500/night, but like the Kayumanis in Bali, looks awful nice.

And on the Upper West side, which I really like as a place to hang out, there is The Empire, but Conde Naste also notes there is “6 Columbus”:http://www.cntraveller.com/Special_Features/The_Hot_List_2008/6_Columbus/ which is next to the Mandarin Oriental and in a 1920 building. Really great rooms and there is a rooftop bar too. Expensive like all of NYC at $450, but there are bargains given the recession. On promotion King rooms are $280!

Or for a cool stop downtown, in the West Village, there is the “Bowery Hotel”:http://www.cntraveller.com/Special_Features/The_Hot_List_2008/The_Bowery_Hotel/
