Tech: Transition of MagSafe 3-in-1 Chargers systems as Qi2 and power increases

Ok, here are the links, and the deeper technical issues but basically, MagSafe can charge at 7.5W, 10W or 15W and the more expensive devices support this.

The bigger change is that Qi2 is coming, these only work with iPhone 15, but will be compatible with them. So if you can hold off a bit, the chargers should definitely get cheaper, but for right now now there is a steep premium for different devices.

The Apple Watch can charge at 3W or 5W (the so called fast charging), so you have to be careful when browsing Amazon what you actually are buying. As an example, here are the very real cost differences:

  1. ESR 25W 3-in-1 Charger Stand for Magsafe. The modern chargers cost more, the current state of the art of 15W charging for phones and 5W charging for watchs so it is 50% faster for phones and double for watches, the problem is that they need modules from Apple and so cost more. The cheapest I found are $139 but that is a little much I think but would last a long time. For overnight charging it’s not that big a deal to go slower.
  2. ESR 3-in-1 Charger. The other kind are cheaper is 10W and 3W but is $45 and seems more reasonable I looked for ones with good reviews. ESR is a good brand
