cell: US Mobile network swap back to warp for iPhone and Apple Watch companion plan

More notes on this. As of August, a big change is that Verizon/Warp now has more than 100 roaming partners. Still less than T-mobile/light speed and at&t/dark star but much better. It’s really quite a win. I’ll be sad when some gigantic conglomerate buys US Mobile out. But in the mean time, it’s been working great of rus.

They have a great promotion now for dark star that’s $300 for a $400 a year plan plus $25 off of you have a referral code.

Making it with can need pretty confusing so some notes but the big mistake I made I think was the step 1:

  1. MAKE SURE you delete the old warp plans of your phone and watch before you start the switch back. Once you switch away the old eSIMs are not reused but new ones are created so in my case both the activations failed. On there is mobile side they both show as activated but this doesn’t work on the phone side.
  2. If you are switching from dark star to warp, you can click on existing phone so you don’t have to dig out your imei.
  3. Then you will get a confusing process complete but nothing happens. You have to hit refresh and then you will see a processing message.
  4. Then it will say ready and then you will get a choice to see a QR code.
  5. You will need a WiFi connection to your phone and another device to display the QR code.
  6. Go to settings > cellular and choose add eSIM. And choose QR code and it say activating.
  7. For me, this didn’t work. The one showed a me sim but I still had an SOS and no signal. If it fails you have to go to their support chat and they will reset the sim. And send you a new QR code. In my case as soon as in said “add an eSIM” it said US Mobile and activating.
  8. Then you see a cellular connection and you have to do the things.
  9. Enable settings > apps > messages and turn on the phone number.
  10. Go to the us mobile apn site and choose download iOS and then warp and this will setup the the cellular data connection.
  11. Finally you go to settings > cellular data and enable data and then WiFi calling where you need to enter your 911 address.
  12. Finally to get the companion watch plan going, it will say ask for one and you type in the imei of the watch and it will sit wait.
  13. Then you post cycle your watch. Note that if the watch as been b previously activated you have to delete that plan or the new one won’t activate. Do this on the iPhone in the watch app > cellular
  14. As I said if there is a previous phone nothing happens. Even when I removed the cellular plan for the watch in iPhone > watch app > cellular I got stuck in a doom loop where the iPhone would c try to find the plan and fail. And just show a generic us mobile screen when you try to setup cellular.
